Health insurance - not an exciting task when looking for a new provider. They were very helpful with asking me all the right questions (and there were a lot of them). But the one question that was asked "are you interested in accident insurance? (or it's correct term). What's that, what does it cover and how much more are we talking about? Once everything was explained, and with having two children it sounded like a good deal for the money. Sign the family up.
My daughter plays softball - catcher position. One game she was on her way to get the ball and tag the runner out on her way to first. Well the runner forgot to drop the bat at home and carried it with her a few feet than dropped it. Being the catcher with all her gear on, she did not see the bat and trip over it, twisting her ankle. The next day - Sunday, we took her to an emergency clinic. Gave them her insurance card and didn't think anything about meeting her deductible.
We received bills for $1,200 and a note from insurance saying we haven't met our deductible, they were not paying any of it. Right before the holidays and here is this big medical bill, just great. It took me a few days to remember that I had the extra insurance and what was that for again.
A phone call to Guy Jones my agent, explaining what happened led me to get the form (just one piece of paper) to fill out. Once I sent the form in, I called in a week to followup. To my surprise, a check was already in the mail for one of the bills. I was told that they had requested from our insurance some more information before sending payment on the other bill.
Needless to say, you just never know what's going to happen when.
